The indirect comparison is an important stimulus for the women, who have the opportunity to observe and assess how it gets better. The idea, developed by EUBC President Franco Falcinelli for a few seasons, is growing and confirms that this is the model that looks to the future.

There are Championships of great technical depth, as confirmed by numbers of nations and athletes, stimulated by the opportunity that the event shall, in particular, the qualification for the Youth Olympics, scheduled in Buenos Aires in Argentina, from 1stuntil 12 October 2018. Quotas promoting 70 men and 52 women to the most important event dedicated to young boxers, 17 and 18 years, using this criterion: men kg. 49, 52, 56, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91, + 91, seven athletes per category; women: kg. 48, 54, 64, 69, four per category; 51, 57, 60, 75 eight per categories; 81, + 81 two per categories.

The Youth European Championships are among the oldest tournaments of all. The debut in 1970 in Miskolc (Hungary), called Junior, that included athletes from 17 to 19 years. At that time, the current EUBC President and vice AIBA, Franco Falcinelli, led, as coach, Italy team. The tournament, also called Under 20, lasted for 20 editions until 2007 in Sombor in Serbia. The next one, in 2009 in Szczecin in Poland, was named European Youth Championships, reserved to 17/18 years. While it settled the Junior European Championship (15-16 years), previuosly called European Cadets, whose first edition was inaugurated in Roseto degli Abruzzi in October 1992. The official first edition took place always in Italy, in Aosta in 1996.

The Youth Championships have always been the backbone of pugilistic movement. In numerous editions attended all the future champions. Also this edition in Roseto degli Abruzzi is no exception, maintaining a high technical profile. The inscriptions, considering the natural physiological decrease, ensure record numbers. Among the men sector there are 229 athletes and 39 Nations, against 193 boxers and 33 countries present in Antalya (Turkey) in 2017. In Roseto, appear 46who already regular in Turkey, including the medalists Bernath (Ung), silver, and Ibrahimov (Aze), bronze, in the 49 kg, the English Price (52) and the Ukrainian Bondarchuk (60) seconds, the Croatian Biletic(+ 91),bronze. Russia proposes Light Heavyweight champion Kolesnikov and, among the reserves, figure Teterev that had dominated the Medium. But there are also many new entries, which they won tournaments and Euroepan in Junior category. The exponential growth of the male sector could create problems of abundance. In the 64 kg. appear33 competitors, with the possibility of have to compete for six matches in eight days.

The evolution of women’s boxing is incontrovertible fact and in Europe, even coming in second step for most of the nations, with the exception of the North and the British Isles, is making great strides.
