WITH BOXING FOR PARKINSON’S DISEASE
In Italy is growing an interesting project created by Dr Maurizio Bertoni, specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology, and supported by Massimiliano Baldesi, Chairman of the Tuscany Regional Committee of the Italian Boxing Federation and by the Italian Boxing Federation.
Recent studies of the University of Indianapolis, published on Physical Therapy, showed that a constant physical training improves the quality of life of patients suffering from Parkinson disease, even if the grade of disease is moderate-heavy.
Clinical studies show that patience with Parkinson disease, who practice exercise for 150 minutes per week have a slower decline in terms of mobility and quality of life over two years than those who make less exercise or doesn’t do it at all.
Dr Maurizio Bertoni claims that practicing a regular physical activity helps to reduce the progression of Parkinson: 2 sessions per week are sufficient to keep the movements more fluid and confident, improving the quality of life.
Parkinson disease is a neurodegenerative disease that causes a general tightness of the muscles with decreased postural stability, tremor and slow movements. As reported by the international research, the improving of this deficit can be achieved through a moderate/intense and continue physical activity in conjunction with drug therapy and rehabilitation project.
