NEWSLETTER EUBC by President Franco Falcinelli, January 2022

01 February 2022 Featured / News

Dear friends,

Although Covid 19 and its variants continue to worry a large part of humanity, sport, like so many other social activities, continues along the path it has already mapped out for the current year.

The European Olympic boxing in 2022 aims to organize 6 Continental Championships and a World Championships:

EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships – March 11-24, Porec, Croaria

EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships – April 10 – 22, Sofia, Bulgaria

IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships – May 6 – 21, Istanbul, Turkey

EUBC Men ‘European Boxing Championships – May 21 – 31, Yerevan, Armenia

EUBC Women’s European Boxing Championships – July 21 – 31, Ulan-Ude, Russia

EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships – August 10 – 31, Erzurum, Turkey

EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships – September 23 – October 2, Montesilvano, Italy

It will therefore be a year of great emotions and strong commitment for our athletes, but it will put a strain on the technical and organizational structures of our National Federations, which show new enthusiasm and new confidence in the new IBA leadership.

A well-deserved thanks go to the Federations of Croatia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Italy, Russia and Turkey who have applied to host the European and World competitions.

The IBA and the EUBC will be at their side, but the quality and success of the events are always linked to the LOCs and national managers who must ensure the necessary financial resources, promotion, logistical organization, communication and media coverage of events.

Our firm intention is to move forward until the end of the competition program without any further stops or postponements due to the persistence of the pandemic.

From March to the end of September, we must hope that everyone can participate without inconvenience of infections, quarantines and health requirements that vary from country to country.

It will be essential to provide all the information well in advance to prepare for entry into the organizing country without the risk of not being admitted to competitions.

The organizational commitment will be much more intense and detailed.

We will have to be careful not to criticize, but to enter into the attitude of appreciating every effort and sacrifice to try, all together, to contribute to the best success of our International Championships and Tournaments.

It is about facing an open challenge with the aim of registering at least the number of teams from previous editions.

It would be the best way to beat the pandemic by telling “Look we’ve brought all our boys and girls back to the ring!”.

We hope that in a few weeks the situation will resize and the desire to train and participate in competitions to obtain satisfactory results will be even stronger and more rewarding.

Olympic boxing is about to celebrate another important competition – renewal of institutional frameworks.

The Continental Confederations and the IBA have planned the conduction of elective Congresses. The EUBC Board of Directors has convened the Extraordinary Congress for the approval of the amendments to the new statute of the Confederation. On the same day the Board of Directors shall approve the date and place of the EUBC elective Congress, which have to take place by the end of April 2022.

The IBA will hold the ordinary elective congress on May 13-14 in Istanbul on the occasion of the Women’s World Championships.

I am confident that rationality and maturity will enable the Presidents of our National Federations to make the best choice of the future leaders of our important governmental continental bodies. New leaders must lead the way of passion, high competence and dedication to our sport

Finally, National Federations will directly elect President of the European Confederation. It is a great democratic achievement that restores the exclusive power to choose their Leader to the Continental Federations.

Congratulations to Tatiana Kirienko

Tatiana Kirienko, Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation

I would like to express my sincere congratulations to Tatiana Kirienko, Chair of the EUBC Youth Committee, who was appointed Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation a few days ago. Tatiana is a person of great experience and ability and I am convinced that with her passion for our sport she will be able to best guide the Russian Federation both nationally and internationally.
