67th Bocskai Memorial Tournament set for February 6-12 in Debrecen, Hungary

The 67th edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament will take place in the Hungarian city of Debrecen from 6th – 12th February. This elite men’s and women’s international tournament is one of the oldest boxing tournaments and is also recognized as one of the strongest in Europe. Every year, it gathers some of the greatest national teams worldwide, and this February, there will be no difference.

According to the registration list, 26 countries have planned their participation in Debrecen, with a total of 125 women and 227 men Boxers from the 13 elite men’s weight categories and 12 elite women’s categories will compete against each other.  

Like 2022, it will be a five-day competition, with the first day of boxing on 7th February, while the finals will be on 11th February. The entire tournament will be streamed on the Hungarian Boxing Federation official YouTube channel.

The tournament was first organized in 1956 and has a long line of famous boxers who gained experience through it. Many Olympic, World and Continental champions and medallists participated at Bocskai Memorial Tournament through the years, such as Istvan Kovacs, Balazs Bacskai, Rakhim Chakiev, Albert Selimov, Roberto Cammarelle, but also two of the most famous professional boxers these days, Dmitry Bivol and Anthony Joshua.

Altogether 16 national teams took part in last year’s edition of this tournament. There were 128 boxers in total, 61 women and 67 men. The trophy for the best boxer went to Yuriy Zakhariev, the outstanding light middleweight sensation from Ukraine, who won gold medals at both the Youth and Elite World Championships in 2021.
