A conversation with Blazo Saranovic, President of Boxing Association of Montenegro
He has just completed six months of his term and the results in Montenegrin boxing are already visible – Blažo Šaranović, from the position of the president, is clearly ready to fulfill all that is programmed and set out when the organization of the competition at the club and representative level is in question.
– So far, I have not had the practice to promise big things, but what I said when I was elected President of the Boxing Federation of Montenegro, I will definitely complete it. Then I said that we will pay special attention to the refinement and popularization of boxing among young people and it seems to me that the results on this issue are already visible. Namely, when you look at the number of participants in boxing events you see that it is higher than in the previous period. It is also very important that we have awakened this interest among girls, and the results are already visible through the representative performances of our girls, said Šaranović.
The new president also announced his participation in the Regional League.
– Very important people are Jurica Runtić from Croatia and Mujo Bajrović from Serbia, the leading people of the Regional Boxing League, which is already in progress and proved necessary for the development of boxing. They expressed an interest in including Montenegro in this story, and we supported that idea. We will talk about details at the meeting on June 15 and 16, but now I can tell you that Montenegro will be part of this story from the next season, part of the Regional League, and this is an important part, as we were before, 30 years ago. We could not enter this story earlier for the simple reason that we did not have competitive capacity. The Regional League is a Senior Competition and we are short of staff. But these young boxers, which we have already this year, have stopped, the next ones will be even more experienced, and this competition will have enormous importance for them to gain new experience. We have to keep track of that potential and keep it in the box. We have the right to include three foreigners in the team, we will see whether we use that right. In every case, this will be our big step forward, said the BSCG President.
On the home scene, the league stage is under way, two qualitative tournaments were held with the help of BSCG.
-Turnir “Podgorski pobjednik” gave us a chance to see the most talented boxers from 15 European countries, and the “Adriatic Pearl” tournament was very good. Both organizations helped the Alliance – I promised it, and I will do it when I’m in the position of president. The “Podgorski pobjednik” tournament will be organized from the Alliance next year, so simply because such a large number of participants goes beyond the organizational capabilities of any club, said Blažo Šaranović.
Summer rich in competitions
This summer, from mid-July, representative duties are on the line.
– In July and August we are expecting many tournaments and European championships for school and youth. Already in July we are waiting for the “Vojvođanska glove” tournament in Subotica, where young boxers will take part, after which we have a big boxing Brandeberg Cup in Frankfurt and August brings us European championships for schoolchildren and young people. All this requires qualitative preparation so that the Alliance, according to the program that has been issued, will organize a quality camp for the preparation of our national team that will be selected by the coach Bosko Draskovic, said Saranovic.
