With the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships starting in Sofia today, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu met with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria H.E. Mr Plamen Oresharski.

Also attending the momentous occasion included the Minister of Youth and Sport Ms Mariana Georgieva, the National Olympic Committee President Ms Stefka Kostadinova, Bulgarian Boxing Federation President, Mr Krasimir Ininski, and the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) President and AIBA Vice-President Mr Franco Falcinelli.

During the meeting, Dr Wu expressed his admiration for the excellent venue used for the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, and for the outstanding job done by Mr Ininski and his federation.

The Prime Minister explained that this new venue was strongly wanted by the government because Bulgaria understands the value of sport as a tool to bring people together, and in this case, this arena aims to promote the image of Bulgaria at an international level.

Mr Oresharski also commented on the importance of this event, as this is the only Qualifying Event for August’s Youth Olympic Games, taking place this year in Nanjing.

In closing, it was established that the current government of Bulgaria will continue to develop sport, and wants to host more sporting events, specifically expressing its interest in hosting the 2016 AOB European Olympic Qualifying Event.
