AIBA President celebrates International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

10 April 2015 News

AIBA President Dr ChingKuo Wu has joined the 6th April IDSDP celebrations by taking part in the White Card Campaign and encouraging the Boxing Family to do the same: Dear members of the Boxing and Sporting Family, On Monday 6th April, the second edition of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace was held to tremendous acclaim all over the world. This day is an initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and was officially announced by the United Nations on August 23rd 2013. Sport is one of the most symbolic and powerful activities in existence, and is a lifestyle which is celebrated, enjoyed, and participated by billions of people. On each International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the work carried out across the globe by actors striving for peace and development through sport is acclaimed, admired and appreciated because without their tenacity and spirit the growth and reputation of sport would not be as high as it currently is. Here at AIBA we are dedicated to sharing the importance of boxing not just from a sporting level, but also in the way it improves lives and transcends stereotypes. The World Series of Boxing (WSB) contains 16 teams from five continents who all inspire their compatriots to believe in better. AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) represents another global brand where we have shown live, world class professional boxing to many countries worldwide. Our AIBA Open Boxing (AOB) displays the sport from the grassroots level to the Olympic Games, while also helping to hone the stars of the future in our ‘Road To Dream’ program which takes boxers and coaches from emerging National Member Federations and gives them practical training and experience that would otherwise be unavailable to them. We will always strive to continue the hard work which defines AIBA, but the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace gives us, and the entire sporting world, a chance to observe the positive actions made from the input of so many people. This is also a moment to recognise all organizations who make the world a more rewarding place, from promoting the benefits of healthier lifestyles or reaching out to parts of the world which have lacked a strong sporting ethos in the past. A world of peace is a better world for us all. Yours in boxing, Dr ChingKuo Wu
