AIBA ready to dispatch new scoring machines to National Federations

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) is delighted to announce that it is now ready to dispatch new scoring machines to its National Member Federations and World Series of Boxing (WSB) Franchises all around the World.

Developed by Swiss Timing, the official timing company of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the AIBA Scoring System is designed to ensure fair play and transparency.

The new system used across all programs (AIBA Open Boxing, World Series of Boxing and AIBA Pro Boxing) is based on the Ten Point Must-System with five judges around the ring. Out of these five judges, only the scores of three of them, which are randomly drawn by a computer, are taken into account. Nobody knows until the end of the bout which judges’ scores are being considered. In addition, scores are revealed only at the end of each bout.

“Since I became President in 2006, it has been my duty to make of AIBA a clean, honest and transparent organization, in order to bring the sport of boxing back to the pinnacle of the Olympic Movement“, said Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu. “All the changes we’ve made to our Technical and Competition Rules have always been inspired by this duty. I strongly believe that this new AIBA Scoring System is the most transparent we could have ever thought of and I am very proud that we can now implement it all around the World. I am convinced that it was AIBA’s role to provide its National Member Federations as well as WSB Franchises with those new scoring machines”.

Training sessions will be organized around all of the upcoming AIBA World Championships and we encourage all National Member Federations to send their technical staff to those orientation seminars.
