APB CHAMPIONS ARTEM HARUTYUNYAN, LU BIN AND JIAWEI ZHANG AMONG THE STARS GOING FOR GLORY AT CHEMISTRY CUP IN HALLE
09 March 2016The German Boxing Federation’s long-running Chemistry Cup tournament returns to Halle between 7-12 March, with several big names from AIBA Pro Boxing competing for gold.
Among the familiar faces in Germany this week is the home favourite Artem Harutyunyan. The APB Light Heavyweight Champion defeated Russia’s former European Champion Vardan Zakaryan in Hamburg last September, and the Russian will be hoping to redress the balance should a rematch be drawn between the two in Halle.
Also in action is China’s former AIBA Youth World Champion Lu Bin, crowned APB Light Flyweight champion one year ago, and a title that he successfully defended against Kazakhstan’s Birzhan Zhakypov last September to qualify for Rio 2016. Team-mate Zhang Jiawei also qualified for the this year’s Olympic Games following his APB bantamweight title and more recent victory at the Strandja Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria.
Russia’s London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Andrey Zamkovoy had an excellent APB Cycle I only losing out to Turkey’s Onur Sipal and will be a key welterweight contender this week. A strong side from the home team features former APB Super Heavyweight Champion Erik Pfeifer, Xhek Paskali (75kg) and Sergej Michel (81kg).
