APB Flyweights Aleksandrov and Asloum aim to be A+ in Sofia

05 June 2015 News

KBA_2549-1800x900Sofia, Bulgaria hosts two AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) Cycle I Round 1 flyweight (52 kg) matches on Saturday night, which can both be watched live on https://www.youtube.com/user/AIBAproboxingTV at 20:30 (GMT +3).

Bulgarian hero Aleksandar Aleksandrov will have the pleasure of making his APB debut in front of his home fans when he battles Redouane Asloum.

Aleksandrov reached the quarter-finals of the London 2012 Olympic Games, and has won the prestigious Strandja Memorial Tournament three times in his career.

Entering APB represents a huge step forward however, and it remains to be seen how he will react to boxing over eight rounds for the first time in his career.

France’s Asloum has competed all over the world across his boxing life, as his World Series of Boxing (WSB) experience is matched with 11 professional victories.

He has struggled in APB though, with a single walkover win his lone success against three heavy defeats.

The break in action may have reignited his desire, and the knowledge he has gained of the longer-round format will give him an added edge in this contest, despite the rapturous support Aleksandrov will receive in Sofia.

For either man to have any chance of eventually facing flyweight Champion Misha Aloian, they will need to win this match, plus their next contest against either Mohamed Flissi or Sajad Mohammadpour who also battle in Bulgaria.

AIBA World Championships silver medalist Flissi began APB with a dazzling stoppage over Redouane Asloum, but has since been finished twice in the competition, which makes this a must win clash for the Algerian athlete.

Mohammadpour is making his debut in this contest, and the 20-year-old Iranian is an exciting talent to watch in the ring.

Two further flyweight matches will take place on June 10 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Match schedule:

20:30: Mohammed FLISSI (ALG) vs Sajad MOHAMMADPOUR (IRI)
21:00: Alexandar ALEKSANDROV (BUL) vs Redouane ASLOUM (FRA)
