Workshop Women and Boxing – Assisi July 25th 2014

The Fifth Edition of EUBC European Women’s Junior- Youth Boxing is underway inside the PalaEventi Sport Venue set Santa Maria degli Angeli (Italian Little Town 1 km south of Assisi) . 100 female junior boxers from 26 nations registered to take part in the Junior European Championships. Meanwhile 97 youth boxers (26 countries) are in competition in their section.

Rest Day scheduled for today, in which took place a workshop about the “Female Boxing and its outstanding development as sport movement”. The meeting was inside the Hotel Cenacolo, set in Santa Maria degli Angeli, and was attended by: Francesco Mignani, Councillor of Sport For City of Assisi, Katia Bellillo, Former Italian Minster of Equal Opportunities, Franco Falcinelli, EUBC President and AIBA VicePresident, Walter Borghino, Italian Boxing Federation VicePresident, Domenico Ignozza, Umbria Italian Olympic Committee President, Stanislaw Dobosz, Polish Boxing Federation VicePresident, Ivette Palazzino, Alberto Tappa, Italian Boxing federation General Secretary, Emanuele Renzini, Head Coach Italian Boxing National Female Team.

“I fought, as Italian Boxing federation President” Stated EUBC President Falcinelli “for letting all Italian Women be a boxers. I remembered that a lot of very important persons tried to keep close the world of boxing to italian women, but, thanks the help of wise people such as former Italian Minister Bellillo, now also in Italy the Female Side of Noble Art is safe and sound. I hope that the International Olympic Committee make the decision to raise for Tokyo 2020 from 3 to 6 the competing weight female boxing categories”

The Youth Semifinals are on schedule for Saturday 26th – 20 matches set in two sessions (3 pm and 6 pm). The Russian Team are ruling also the Youth Weight categories. 8 Russian Boxers are going to compete for gold medals. Both Poland and Ukraine have 5 athletes in the semifinals. Ireland and Germany are in the third position with 4 semifinalists each. The host team, Italy, has got 3 boxers running for the final matches.

GENERAL INFO

7 days of bouts are on schedule. Except for the finals, The Junior boxers and youth ones will fight on alternate days. The junior tournament will take place in the following days: July 20 th (Preliminaries 9 matches), July 22th (Quarter Finals 41 matches), July 24th (Semifinals 26 matches), July 27th (Finals 13 matches). The youth boxers will compete on July 21th (Preliminaries 26 matches), July 23th (Quarter Finals 31 matches), July 26th (Semifinals 20 matches), July 27th (Finals 10 matches). All Days of competition, apart from the finals, are set in two  sessions (first one at 3 pm – second one at 6 pm LOCAL TIME).
