Belarus’ Andrei Masalov eliminated his main local rival in the exciting quarter-final of the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament
20 February 2020The second day of boxing with 24 bouts on the schedule was taking place in the Yukov Prizes Tournament which holds for the men’s youth boxers in the city of Gomel in Belarus. The best Belarusian performances were delivered by Yan Krukouski and Andrei Masalov but Ukraine’s Oleg Lahuta also controlled his fight on Day2.
The Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament is the first big preparation event for the upcoming EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in Budva, Montenegro from April 23. The Bornemissza Memorial Tournament, the Danas Pozniakas Tournament and the Emil Jechev Memorial Tournament will be the next highlights for the youth boxers in the European continent on March.
The Belarusian Boxing Federation has got several international events every year and their opening competition is the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan joined to the event from the Asian continent and both top nations strengthen the annual Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament.
Bout of the day
Yan Krukouski attended in the Anapa 2018 EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships and some other international events in the recent three years, mostly in Ukraine and in Russia. The 17-year-old Belarusian competes at the light welterweight (64kg) in Gomel and he had a seriously tough battle in the quarter-finals against Ukraine’s Danil Lozan. Krukouski had to do his very best to beat his Ukrainian opponent but his great finish guaranteed his place in the next stage. The Belarusian will be meeting with Uzbekistan’s Umid Kadamboyev in the semi-finals of the weight class.
Surprise of the day
Ruslan Adamonis joined to the youth age group this January and arrived to the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament as the local favourite of the middleweight (75kg). The 16-year-old Belarusian eliminated Ukraine’s Ruslan Mozgovoy on Day1 but he was not able to repeat that same strong level in the quarter-finals. His teammate, Andrei Masalov, who claimed gold at the Usov Junior Memorial Tournament one year ago, bowed out Adamonis in an important selection fight between them.
The Round-up
Kazakhstan sent two boxers at the bantamweight (56kg) to the Yukov Prizes Youth Tournament and both advanced to the semi-finals in Gomel. Firstly, Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup silver medallist Islam Makhashev was slightly better than Belarus’ Stanislau Korenkou and after his success his fellow Almaz Duisenkul also joined to the last four beating Ukraine’s Dmitriy Todorov by split decision on Day2.
Belarus’ Botvinnik Junior Memorial Tournament silver medallist Raman Ziazulchyk exceeded the expectations on Day1 when he eliminated Uzbekistan’s promising Temur Rakhmatjonov in the opening bout of the bantamweight (56kg). The 16-year-old Belarusian met in the second day with his compatriot Aliaksandr Lavrushchyk who shocked EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Kiryl Levankou on Day1. Lavrushchyk’s motivation has been increased following that success and he used the perfect tactic against Ziazulchyk as well securing his place in the last four.
Ukraine’s Oleg Lahuta claimed gold medal at the 2016 EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships in the smallest category and since then he moved up to the lightweight (60kg). The Ukrainian, who will be turning to 18 this year, controlled all of the three rounds against Belarus’ Maksim Govorov and proved strong performance in Gomel. His teammate Danilo Zamorulo and two local boxers as Matvei Davydov and Vitali Starinski also advanced to the semi-finals in this weight class.
Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Nurislom Ismoilov moved up to the middleweight (75kg) last month but he adopted the strength of the punches quickly. The Uzbek boxer was too smart for Belarus’ EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships silver medallist Danil Masalovich in the second competition day. The second Uzbek star in this weight class is another ASBC Asian Junior Champion boxer, Login Petrov who stopped Belarus’ Henadzi Yatskov quickly spending only two minutes in the ring.
