
Big names like Nistor, Pulev and Russo already registered to 47th Grand Prix of Usti nad Labem
31 May 2016Almost 20 national federations from 3 continents sending their teams to 47th Grand Prix which takes place in Usti nad Labem from 18 th to 21 st May 2016. This biggest elite men AIBA boxing event in the Czech Republic has a great tradition. Many Olympics winners like Teofilo Stevenson, Felix Savon or Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo from Cuba, Roberto Cammarelle from Italy or Alexander Lebzjak from Russia has shown their talent here.
This was the history, but big names are still going to the city in the heart of Europe. Bronze medalist from London Olympic games Tervel Pulev from Bulgaria has confirmed the attendance. But he will not be the only star in heavy weight category. He will have strong opponent. Two times silver Olympic medalist Clemente Russo from Italy will be also competing in Usti nad Labem. There is another world champion in Italian team travelling to The Czech Republic. Domenico Valentino world champion from Milan will try to win the gold also in Usti nad Labem. Super heavyweight world champion of the AIBA Pro Boxing Mihai Nistor from Romania is another star who will enter the ring in Usti nad Labem. And many other future talents will try to win at this prestigious boxing tournament.
Almost 20 teams mainly from Europe, but also from Asia and Africa have already registered their boxers to the Grand Prix. Tradition, quality and easy accessibility to Usti nad Labem combined with many cheap flights to Prague (the transportation from Prague International airport is on the cost of the organizers) and the only 25 EUR fee per day per participant (including 3 meals and accommodation) are benefits which attracts teams from all over the world. And registration is still open.
“Grand Prix Usti nad Labem started in 1968, so the tournament has a long tradition but we try still to keep the friendly atmosphere during the whole competition. There are 8 weight categories from 56 kg to plus 91. It is not necessary to send the whole squad so it is also possible to send just few boxers. We will warmly welcome every boxer who wants to take part at the biggest tournament in The Czech Republic,” says Svatopluk Zacek, the President of the Czech Boxing Association and the head of organizing committee.
