Over the years, brothers Cuțov, Simion (two times European Champion in 1973 and 1975, Vice Olympic Champion in Montreal 1976) and Calistrat, Cutov, Costică Dafinoiu and other boxers bring the glory in Brăila.
From March 13th to 22nd the City of Brăila will host, for the first time, the European Under 22 Boxing Championships. Thanks to support of the Major Mr. Marian Dragomir and the President of Brăila County, Mr. Francisk Iulian Chiriac, Romanian Boxing Federation received the organization of this Championships.

It is a City with a great tradition in boxing and I am glad to see the Romanian Boxing Federation working along with the heads of local government in Braila, I mean the President and the Mayor of Braila County Council. This competition, European Confederation Under 22 Boxing Championships, will be a unique event for Romania and we are very glad to organize this edition. Braila will be at the capital of boxing for ten days“, declared Vasile Citea, the President of Romanian Boxing Federation.
The Local Organizing Committee had a meeting at the end of 2016 and started the preparation of the Event. The President of LOC will be Vasile Priceputu, Chief of Businessmen from Brăila.
The Romanian boxer from Brăila, Robert Jitaru, two times bronze medalist at European Youth Championships (2014 and 2015) wants and will try to bring back the glory to Brăila.
