Cammarelle Last Bout31 May 2016
The match number 231 against Ahmed El Ghazi (FRA) in the pre-Olympic beteween Italy and France was for Roberto Cammarelle the last bout of his incredible career.
Three Olympic Medals – the peak reached in Beijing in 2008 with the gold medal, silver in London 2012 after the final against the British Joshua , bronze in Athens 2004 – and four World Championship medals that accompanied the strongest Italian super maximum ever.
Two -time world champion – in Chicago in 2007 and Milan in 2009 – and twice third places. And again three European silvers, four European Union titles and three triumphs at the Mediterranean Games.
An exemplary career, never a statement or a behavior out of order, a true reference point for young people who approach boxing.
In Milan for the beginning of the match number 231 his heart was beating like April 9 th of 21 years ago in which the 34 year old Italian began his incredible career during the Inter-Regional Championships in Varese.
A startup rightly excited for Cammarelle in the first round with the French too intimidated; in the second round, however, the match changes: Cammarelle, dodge the barrage shots and get to sign when he wants . The finish is the best of times with a double upright but just on the final El Ghazi shot a right hook to the chin. The third round is the final act of the symphony, Cammarelle closes with a right hook.
“I’m glad to be here with my boys. You have a great responsibility you have to pay a tribute to our boxing, which has over one hundred years! Start now , from the Olympic games! The first thanks goes to myself and then to my wife Nicoletta and my children” – said Cammarelle after the bout to the younger boxers in the venue.
After the last punch as an athlete, Cammarelle will begin his new challenge as Technical Director of the Fiamme Oro group, handing down to the youngers the values of the noble art.
