A host of Olympic hopefuls descended on Stalsund, Germany, at the start of November for the Queen’s Women’s Cup, a final preparation tournament for the Rio 2016 qualification events. Canada’s Pan American Games flyweight champion Mandy Bujold continued her fine form with a victory over European Games silver medalist Sandra Drabik.

“I won my final fight against a very strong Polish boxer by unanimous decision and also took the Best Technical Boxer trophy at the Queen’s Cup in Stralsund. Thanks to everyone for their support this week, the feeling is amazing. Everything just seems to be lining up perfectly,” said Bujold, one of Canada’s main medal chances for Rio.

Britain’s AIBA Women’s World Champion Savannah Marshall’s cup hopes had been beset by injury problems, but she was looking back to her best in Germany as she took middleweight gold. Marshall had to overcome several tough opponents, including veteran Swede Anna Laurell, Australia’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist Caitlin Parker and German number one Sarah Scheurich.

Marshall’s teammate Chantelle Cameron also appears to be in top form, continuing her good recent run with Queen’s Cup gold. The English lightweight defeated Sweden’s former AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion, 19-year-old Agnes Alexiusson who had already eliminated Russia’s star London 2012 silver medalist Sofya Ochigava in their semi-final

Australia’s Commonwealth Games champion Shelley Watts thrilled the crowd as she defeated Rosie Eccles of Wales in the light welterweight final. Eccles’ team-mate Lauren Price took welterweight gold, beating Russia’s Darima Sandakova in the final.
