Cholov, Rosenov and Alicic dominated their fights in the first day at the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament
08 October 2020The 38th edition of the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament started with its first competition day in Subotica, Serbia. Bulgaria’s three-time EUBC European Champion among the schoolboys and juniors, William Cholov, his fellow Radoslav Rosenov and Serbia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Semiz Alicic started strongly on Day1.
The Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament has been re-scheduled from July which was the original date of the event as in the previous years. The 38th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament is taking place in the Subotica Sports Hall in Serbia and the event is parallel with the Boxam Tournament.
The young talents who were born in 2002 or in 2003 are eligible to attend in the 38th Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament in Subotica. The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Serbia to avoid any new Covid-19 cases in the event.
Bout of the day
Bulgaria’s William Cholov achieved the gold medal at the 2017 edition of the EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships with less experiences as many of his opponents. The Bulgarian boxer won gold medals also at the 2018 and 2019 EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships. Billy, which is his nickname, joined to the youth age group this January and has got high expectations in the upcoming big EUBC and AIBA events. The 17-year-old Bulgarian had a competitive rival as first, Serbia’s Aleksandar Serifovic and in spite of his first difficulties, he controlled the middleweight (75kg) fight which was the best in the opening competition day.
The Round-up
Bulgaria’s Nikolay Marinov claimed silver medal at the 2019 EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships and in 2020 he is still in the youth age group. The 18-year-old Bulgarian bantamweight (56kg) boxer opened the whole event with bout number one which was quick for Marinov. The Bulgarian landed lethal punches and proved impressive dominancy over Serbia’s Stefan Pavlovic and the referee confirmed his RSC success in the first round.
Serbia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Semiz Alicic moved up to the lightweight (60kg) but he has the strength and quick adaptation of the new category. The 18-year-old Serbian talent dominated the first round against Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Luka Veljovic and stopped his opponent in the second. Another EUBC European Junior Champion who competes at the lightweight (60kg) at the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament, Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov was too strong for Serbia’s Luka Ivic Jovic.
Serbia’s next success in the opening day was delivered by Strahinja Karabegovic at the welterweight (69kg) where he defeated Croatia’s Josip Lovric unanimously. In the second bout of the weight class, Bulgaria’s EUBC European Junior Champion Emirdzhan Mehmed eliminated Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Vuk Micic.
