England on the top and 10 nations are in the finals in the EUBC European Union Boxing Championships

Following the rest day, the exciting semi-finals was held in the eighth competition day of the EUBC European Union Boxing Championships in Valladolid, Spain. England is the most successful country in the event after the semi-finals but Italy, Spain, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Ireland, France and Slovakia also have got finalists in Valladolid.

Altogether 124 boxers are attending for the medals in Valladolid which is the capital of the Castile and Leon community. In the eighth competition day all of the ten weight classes were in action and the 20 remained boxers will be fighting for the titles in Valladolid.

The EUBC European Union Boxing Championships is the main competition for the men’s elite boxers in 2018 and the continent’s top boxers are attending in the event. The first edition of the EUBC European Union Boxing Championships was held in Strasbourg, France in 2003 and after the last Sofia event Spain’s Valladolid is the host.

Seven boxers attended at the light flyweight (49kg) and among them the youngest boxer Georgia’s Sakhil Allakhverdovi advanced to the finals with strong performance. The 19-year-old EUBC European Youth Champion was too strong for Poland’s Jakub Slominski and the Georgian will be meeting with for the gold medal with Italy’s Federico Serra who eliminated Spain’s Martin Molina today.

Spain’s first finalist in the EUBC European Union Boxing Championships will be Gabriel Escobar who performed in the world class level in 2018. Following his silver at the EUBC European Confederation U22 Boxing Championships, he was able to get a gold at the Mediterranean Games in June. The 22-year-old Spanish star did enough against Georgia’s Nodari Darbaidze to chase for his next title against England’s William Cawley.

England’s Peter McGrail is the defending EUBC European Champion at the bantamweight (56kg) who also raised his pedigree with his narrow triumph in the semi-final over France’s Jordan Rodriguez. Both boxers were born in 1996 and could be Europe’s great hopes in the world stage next year. England’s No.1 is in top shape and he is expecting another gold tomorrow when his final opponent will be Ireland’s Kurt Walker.

France was one of the best European boxing nations at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and among their team members Sofiane Oumiha is still in the AOB level. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist and AIBA World Champion French proved that he is one of the best European elite boxers who stopped Poland’s Radomir Obrusniak in their one-sided bout. The 24-year-old French will be meeting for the gold medal of the lightweight (60kg) with England’s Calum French who bowed out of his way Italy’s Francesco Maietta.

The McCormack brothers continued their strong performance in Valladolid, firstly Luke eliminated Moldova’s Dmitri Galagot and can prepare to his final against Italy’s WSB hope Paolo Di Lernia. His twin brother Commonwealth Games winner Pat McCormack dominated his semi-final over Ireland’s Kieran Molloy and marched to the final of the welterweight (69kg) where Spain’s second finalist Rio 2016 Olympian returning Youba Ndiaye Sissokho will be trying to stop his road tomorrow.

The Slovakian team could attend in the EUBC European Union Boxing Championships following their management’s efforts in the final minute but their No.1 Andrej Csemez worked well in the semi-finals and eliminated Moldova’s six-year older Victor Carapcevschii. The 20-year-old Slovakian middleweight (75kg) boxer will be fighting for the gold medal with England’s another young prospect Carl Fail whose style is similar as Csemez’s one.

Romania’s EUBC European U22 Champion Paul Andrei Aradoaie returned to the light heavyweight (81kg) and stopped his French opponent Gaetan Ntambwe winning his semi-final by RSC. His success means he will be able to make an attempt to beat England’s quick No.1 Benjamin Whittaker in the final tomorrow.

At the heavyweight (91kg) Italy’s EUBC European U22 Champion Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine will be boxing for the gold medal with Croatia’s lone finalist Toni Filipi. England’s Frazer Clarke did not deliver his best performance in the semi-finals of the super heavyweight (+91kg) but he was capable to beat Croatia’s Marko Milun today. England’s powerful giant is focusing to the gold medal but Bulgaria’s Petar Belberov kept himself alive the semi-finals and will be meeting with Clarke for the title.
