EUBC Competition Director Mr. Marko Marovic – Strong officials supported our success in Tbilisi
16 July 2021Mr. Marko Marovic of Croatia worked as EUBC Competition Director at the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships which was the main highlight of the first part of the month. The Georgian capital hosted the competition and as in 2019, Tbilisi’s organizers have done perfect job and arranged a remarkable competition. Mr. Marko Marovic shared us his opinion about the wonderful event which progressed since the last edition in terms of number of boxers and participating countries.
“The EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Tbilisi was a great event. We had strong support from the Local Organising Committee in Georgia, led by the LOC Competition Manager Ms. Mariam Dundua and President of the Georgian Boxing Federation Mr. Davit Tsiklauri. They were the host of the EUBC European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships two years ago which was also a success. They outdid themselves with the junior event this time.
The venue of the event was a volleyball arena which was ideal for our competition regarding the space and all of the utilities. The hotels were up the level and teams enjoyed the whole competition according to the feedbacks. The organizers justified the confidence given them by the EUBC Executive Board and EUBC President Mr. Franco Falcinelli.
Although it was a junior event, the level looked strong in terms of organization. One of our greatest strengths was the involvement of the AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev, the AIBA Secretary General Mr. Istvan Koko Kovacs and AIBA staff like Mrs. Ria Ramnarine who helped me and the Technical Delegate of the competition, Mr. Dragoljub Radovic to do our jobs even better.
The finals had great production with great contests which presented out top level boxers in high standard to the world in live transmission through AIBA and EUBC YouTube channels. At the very first time in the history of the event, money prizes were presented for the best boxers of the categories, 4000 USD for the gold, 2000 for the silver and 1000 for the bronze medals. Also, great officials brought us correct and justified decisions and we could crown the correct European Champions.
I must congratulate to the teams, boxers, and coaches who all produced their peak performance in Tbilisi. Behind us is two tough years with the Coronavirus pandemic but the coaches prepared the athletes perfectly and they all have done marvellous job. The last three rounds of the competition, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the finals were all breath-taking. We saw many great future prospects which convincing us that we are on the right track in our sport.
The previous edition of the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships was held in Sofia, Bulgaria in November 2020 and due to the pandemic the event was not in the same level what we saw in Georgia. The Sofia edition was also a success in a very difficult time for all of the National Federations and we continued the developments in Georgia.
If you look through the statistics, you have three top teams in the rankings, Russia, Ukraine and Georgia in Tbilisi. I would like to stress out two more countries in the competition, Cyprus and Montenegro. Both nations arrived with one boxer to Tbilisi and Cyprus claimed an amazing gold while Montenegro a silver medal,” summarized his experiences during the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships, Mr. Marko Marovic.
