EUBC Family Mourns Rome 1960 Silver Medal Zbigniew Pietrzykowski19 May 2014
Today is a very sad day for European Boxing, Zbigniew Pietrzykowski (79), one of the best polish boxer ever, passed away. He got two olympic bronze medals in Melbourne (1956) and Tokio (1964) and one silver medal at Rome 1960 Olympic games after breathtaking bout against Muhammad Ali.
In a condolences letter sent to Mr. Gorski (President of Polish Boxing Federation) and Mr. Kusior (EUBC VicePresident), Mr. Franco Falcinelli, EUBC President, Stated: ” I have received the sad news of Zbigniew Pietrzykowski’s passing away. He had a very glorious expression of the value and international and Olympic boxing history. Upon seeing him competing in the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, some years ago I had the opportunity to personally know him and fully appreciate his moral and human qualities. On behalf of myself and all our continental boxing movement, I would like to express to his family and to Polish boxing my deepest condolences.”
