The Irish Amateur Boxing Association is getting ready to host the 11th EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships, which begin at 3pm at the City West Hotel in Dublin next Monday, July 29th. The best European Schoolboys Boxers are expected in the Capital of the Green Island, where they are going to fight for the medals. The IABA President, Mr. Tommy Murphy, talks to us about this “Irish” edition of the Champs and the Home team’s will to do its best in front of the Irish Sporting Public

  1. 1.        Dear Mr. President, How IABA and Dublin are getting ready to host the 2013 EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships?

We are very excited about hosting our first ever European Schoolboys Boxing Championships. It is a great honour for Ireland to bring on event of this size to our country

  1. 2.        The best European Schoolboys Boxers are going to fight in Dublin. And so, An High Boxing Quality should be guaranteed inside the City West Hotel. What do you think about it?

As the host Country, we are delighted to welcome the best Schoolboy Boxers in Europe to Ireland. The reports back from previous Championships state that an exceptionally high standard of boxing takes place at the European Schollboys Championships and we know that this is improving, year on year. We hope that the Irish Sporting public will enjoy the wonderful array of talent on display in the City West Hotel.

  1. 3.        Ireland’s boxers have won medals at every European Schoolboy Championships since the inaugural tournament in Rome in 2003 and Ireland’s European Schoolboy Championships medal haul now stands at 50, nine of which are gold. What kind of results do you expect from your team in this edition?

Our Team for 2013 is very strong. Last year in Anapa (Russia) we won 3 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze medals. Our aim is always to improve. We want to better this medal Haul this year and we feel that our current squad have the potential to do this. We finished as the second best Schoolboy team in Europe last year but we want to become the best. Hopefully that can be achieved this year, but if not, we’ll continue to strive to become number one in the years ahead.
