Fourteen nations will be attending in the 14th Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament this week
18 March 2019Following the finals of the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships the next competition will be starting in our continent from Wednesday. Lithuania has got three big international AOB events every year and their first one in 2019 is the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament as usual. The 14th edition of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania this week where fourteen nations are in the registration list.
The competition was named after Lithuania’s national boxing hero Danas Pozniakas who claimed gold medal at the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games and also crowned three-times in the history of the European Boxing Championships. During his long and successful career Danas Pozniakas won 203 bouts out of his 217 total contests in the ’60s.

History of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament
The prestigious Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament was launched with its first edition still back in 2006 following their boxing icon passed away in 2005. Ukraine’s Ievgen Khytrov was the star of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament in the first edition thirteen years ago who became later AIBA World Champion in 2011.
Lithuania’s Evaldas Petrauskas, France’s Souleymane Cissokho, Wales’ Fred Evans, Ireland’s Jason Quigley, Kazakhstan’s Yerzhan Zhomart, and Uzbekistan’s Ikboljon Kholdarov all won the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament before their Olympic and AIBA medals. Defending AIBA World Champions as France’s Sofiane Oumiha and Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak both won the youth event before their elite successes.
The Russian team dominated the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament winning seven out of the ten gold medals in Vilnius one year ago. The last edition of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament was a preparation event for the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.
