France’s AIBA World Champion Sofiane Oumiha – All of the rivals could be difficult in London
13 March 2020France’s Sofiane Oumiha is one of the main favourites for the gold medal at the lightweight (63kg) in the European Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event. He claimed silver medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games therefore his expectations are high in the upcoming European Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
Oumiha achieved gold in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships and silver at the Minsk 2019 European Games. The French boxer was awarded the Best European Men’s Elite Boxer Trophy from the European Boxing Confederation in 2018. Oumiha is famous of his long distance tactic and the French star lost only a few contests in the recent three and half years.
“We had a lot of training camps abroad, some of them in the mountains to prepare well to the European Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which we combined with some international tournaments in the recent months.
We had a lot of works to increase our strength and physical skills on the mornings while we focused on the technical and tactical parts at the evening sessions. I had various sparring partners especially from Thailand, Italy and Russia.
My expectations are very simple regarding the London event, just to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. I started my preparation for Tokyo short after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where I achieved silver medal. I decided to stay in Olympic boxing still in Rio de Janeiro and my focus is on the Qualifiers since 2016.
For this European Olympic Qualifier there is not any competitor to fear because everyone wants to go to the Games. All of them could be very difficult in London and I know the quota place for Tokyo is expensive,” said France’s lightweight (63kg) star Sofiane Oumiha just before the start of the European Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
