Great Britain’s Youth Olympic Games winner Ivan Hope Price – My RSC victory was the only one in the finals of the Youth Olympic Games
25 October 2018Ivan Hope Price began his boxing career at the age of 4 and his father supported every steps of his career in the recent 14 years. The 18-year-old English flyweight (52kg) boxer won the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, he get the title of the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and claimed silver in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in 2018.
During his road to the Youth Olympic final Ivan Hope Price eliminated Algeria’s AFBC African Youth Champion and Ireland’s Dean Patrick Clancy which was the re-match of the final of the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. The English talent spent only a short time in the ring and stopped Thailand’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sarawut Sukthet in the final claiming Europe’s first gold medal in the fourth competition day of the Youth Olympic Games accomplishing his mission in Buenos Aires.
Ivan Hope Price summarized his experiences from the Youth Olympic Games.
“I felt much focused going into the final of the Youth Olympic Games in the Argentinean capital to show my skills against my Thai rival. I am always confident in my own ability to be able to adapt in there. I dropped my hands by my waist and I used my reflexes and let my hands go and before I knew it the fight was over.
I think my fast RSC success in the final of the Youth Olympic Games surprised a lot of people. There is not so many Olympic finals which the boxers won by RSC before the final gong in the past. My RSC victory was the only one in the finals of the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games and I am proud of my performance.
The Youth Olympic Games was by far the best competition I have ever been to, to get to watch all over sports, meet with new people. The Opening and the Closing Ceremonies of the Youth Olympic Games makes you feel special to be there.
I have a little break, spend my time with my family and friends. We will have a bit of fun together and then get back to my boxing gym because the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is in my sight,”said Youth Olympic Games winner and EUBC European Youth Champion Ivan Hope Price following his return to the United Kingdom.
