Italy’s Irma Testa – “I feel myself strong at the featherweight (57kg) in Vladikavkaz”
13 March 2019The Rio 2016 Olympian and defending EUBC European U22 Champion Irma Testa delivered sensational performance in the quarter-finals of the featherweight (57kg) in Vladikavkaz. The 21-year-old Italian eliminated one of her main rivals at the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships, Russia’s EUBC European Youth Champion Liudmilla Vorontsova and advanced to the semi-finals on Day5.
“I think I boxed well in the second and third rounds in my yesterday’s quarter-final in Vladikavkaz. My Russian opponent was a top one, it was a great experience for me to compare myself to her excellent technical skills. My tactic was to avoid his punches and to respond to these attacks immediately. The most important thing for me was not to receive punches from my Russian opponent in this quarter-final.
I felt myself strong enough physically and this featherweight (57kg) is much familiar for me than the lightweight (60kg). The difference between the two weight classes is mainly physical and I recognized that I am stronger than my opponents at the 57kg category. I have to stay focused in my next semi-final and I am expecting to do the same performance as in the quarter-finals,'”said Italy’s defending champion Irma Testa.
