Marchuk, Belezika and Arsovski were the bests in the Montenegro Youth & Junior Cup on Day2

21 May 2021 News

Seventeen contests were held in the second competition day at the Montenegro Youth & Junior Cup which is a new event in the European boxing map. Only the junior boxers were in action on Day2 when Ukraine’s Artem Marchuk, Sweden’s Elwin Belezika and North Macedonia’s Petar Arsovski were the bests of the session.

Montenegro hosted the last edition of the EUBC European Youth Boxing Championships in November 2020 and they had the Adriatic Pearl Youth Tournament in February 2021. The President of the Montenegro Boxing Federation Mr. Aleksandr Klemenko and his team work hard to develop the sport in the country. Many European nations joined to the Montenegro Youth & Junior Cup and Palestine also sent a strong team to Budva.

The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Montenegro to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the Montenegro Youth & Junior Cup. The Technical Delegate of the competition is Mrs. Susanne Karrlander, the member of the AIBA Women’s Commission.

The bout of the day

Ukraine’s Artem Marchuk is not an experienced boxer in the international stage yet but he has got wonderful skills which he proved in the second day of boxing. The Ukrainian had such a strong opponent as Georgia’s EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships silver medallist Murad Tagievi. The Georgian boxer is now 14kg heavier since the schoolboys continental event and his physical skills grew superbly. The Ukrainian boxer was slightly better in the exchanges and he has done hard job to beat the experienced Georgian at the light bantamweight (52kg).

The surprise of the day

Azerbaijan’s Khagani Guliyev is a 16-year-old junior who competed in several competitions with successes therefore he was among the favourites of the heavyweight (+80kg) in Budva. The Azeri boxer was not able to repeat his previous performances and suffered a loss to Sweden’s Elwin Belezika. The Swedish boxer is unknown in the international competitions but his strength shocked Guliyev in the first round. Belezika landed enormous punches and the referee quickly stopped the contest to save Guliyev’s health.

The Round-Up

North Macedonia did not produce such big talent as Petar Arsovski in the recent ten years and their new prodigy proved energetic boxing in the second competition day of the Montenegro Cup. The 16-year-old talent moved up to the light bantamweight (52kg) and decided his contest very quickly against Montenegro’s Boris Sarcevic. Arsovski, who had more than 70 bouts already, landed lethal punches in the first round and the referee confirmed his RSC victory.

The Georgians hosted the 2019 EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships and their National Federation will be the organizer of the upcoming EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships. The Georgians are in full speed with the preparations to the continental event and the Montenegro Cup is a perfect challenge for them before Tbilisi. Their EUBC European Schoolboy Champion Gor Ayvazyan had a narrow success over Sweden’s Joshua Muyinda at the pinweight (46kg) while his teammate Oruj Akhmedovi was too strong for Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Petar Sredojevic.
