The Technical Meeting of the 39th edition of the Gee Bee Tournament was held in the Hotel Scandic Kallio in Helsinki, Finland after the arrivals of all national teams. The Gee Bee Tournament is the highlight of the boxing events this week before start of the European Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.
The Technical Delegate of the Gee Bee Tournament Mr. Maxim Cherticovtsev of Moldova translated his speech also to Russian during the meeting and informed all delegations about the most important factors of the competition. The President of Finnish Boxing Federation Mr. Henrik Tavio welcomed the participants and shared also several useful information about the Gee Bee Tournament.
Following the General weigh-in and the official draw the Gee Bee Tournament will be starting with its first competition day on March 6 at 13:00. The finals of the Gee Bee Tournament are scheduled to take place at the Helsinki Sport Hall on March 8 also from 13:00. One of the biggest strengths of the Gee Bee Tournament is the distance between the venue and the hotel which is only a simple short walk.
Finland’s capital Helsinki will be the host of the Gee Bee Tournament as in the past which event is scheduled also for the elite women and men boxers. A total number of 108 boxers registered to attend in the three-days long Gee Bee Tournament where several next generation stars will be competing for the gold medals.
The following 16 nations arrived to Helsinki and will be taking part in the 39th Gee Bee Tournament: Afghanistan, Armenia, Estonia, host Finland, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Netherlands, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Wales. Mr. Timo Rannikko and Mr. Henrik Tavio welcomed the teams from Afghanistan, Germany and Serbia which is their first participation in the tournament’s history.
The women boxers can attend in two selected weight categories at the Gee Bee Tournament while the men athletes in the official 8 Olympic divisions from the flyweight (52kg) up to the super heavyweight (+91kg).
