Newsletter EUBC by President Franco Falcinelli – July 2017
13 August 2017Dear Boxing Friends,
The intense work in Europe in going on. July has been an important month for boxing for the number and the high quality of competions. Besides the tournaments organized by the National Federations, we had two important European Championships: European Women’s Youth & Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria and European Schoolboys Championships in Valcea, Romania.
The Elite Women’s European UE Championships have just ended. They were very well organized and a success as well as an important technical review of the best boxers of the 20 countries that took part in this eighth edition.
The city of Cascia, which hosted the event, responded with great affection to the presence of many young Europeans girls, and the Mayor Mario de Carolis thanked all delegations for their demonstration of concrete solidarity with the populations that a year ago were severely affected by a strong earthquake. Olympic sports and boxing in these circumstances have proven to be close to the needs and hopes of those in difficulty and in need of moral and material support to start living and trust in their own future.
Special thanks to the President of the Italian Boxing Federation Mr. Vittorio Lai and his staff for the excellent technical and management organization. Thank you to the Supervisor Helmut Ranze and all ITOs, to the Competitor Manager Mr. Nazzareno Mela and to the Referees and Judges who provided very good and correct performances.
Dear friends of the EUBC and AIBA family, in this newsletter I cannot fail to mention what is happening within our International Association.
After the Moscow Executive Committee and after the motion for a Vote of No Confidence in President Wu, unreasonable conflicts emerged as President Wu did not accept the democratic resolution of the overwhelming majority of the members of the Executive Committee – 13 out of 16 members – and the creation of the IMC (Interim Management Committee) – in order to manage and ferry AIBA to the Extraordinary Congress.
Unfortunately, the press has given enormous emphasis to this split, and obviously Olympic boxing seems embarrassed to learn of the bad news that have characterized AIBA’s leadership over the past 10 years.
But I would like to reassure you all that the IMC is working to save AIBA from bankruptcy and to bring back to Olympic boxing the dignity and prestige that have characterized its glorious past.
The Extraordinary Congress to be held in Dubai on November 12, 2017 will have to correct the mistakes made and start AIBA towards a path of cultural, political and managerial innovation. Along with you, we can do it.
