Boxing’s final continental event of the year gets underway on 21 November, as the Polish city of Kolobrzeg hosts the 2015 EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.

Only those boxers born in 1987 or 1988 are eligible to compete at the tournament, with 224 athletes from 38 countries due to take part. By 28 November, ten champions will have been crowned in the 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg weight classes.

Among the countries to send full squads to Poland are Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, joining a strong Polish contingent featuring leading medal hopes Sebastian Wiktorzak (69kg) and Kamil Mroczkowski (+91kg).

Moldova’s Dorin Bucsa and Germany’s Peter Kadiru are the two defending champions who will be looking to repeat their excellent showings in Zagreb last year. Also among the highlights is Monaco’s sole representative, the light welterweight Hugo Micallef.

A hotly disputed super heavyweight category will see Germany’s 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner Peter Kadiru up against England’s Daniel Dubois and Russia’s Valerii Topuzyan in the quest for gold, while Ireland’s William Donoghue will be among the favourites in the flyweight class.

“I have trained twice a day, seven days a week to try and get the gold medal in the upcoming EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. I won the gold medal in the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial Tournament in Russia and have been sparring with some strong boxers, especially Garry Cully who won the title in 2013. I am focusing on Kolobrzeg before my elite years,” said the Irishman.

Ukraine’s AIBA Junior World Heavyweight Champion Robert Marton will be looking for gold against his great rivals Artem Mikealian of Russia and Austrian sensation Aleksandar Mraovic, while the AIBA Boxer of July, Mark Kontrecz of Hungary, will be hoping to land a rematch against Georgia’s Eskerkhan Madiyev, to whom he lost in the final of the Ahmet Comert Youth Tournament last month.
