Moldovan Youth Team in Vilnius

Thanks to AIBA’s pioneering development program “Road to Dream”, Moldova has sent three of its boxers to three-week intensive training camp in the build-up to the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships Sofia 2014. They are now wishing to shock the World!

One of their new future star Dorin Bucsa joined to the youth level only in January following his successful junior and schoolboys years in boxing. Dorin Bucsa won one of the strongest European youth boxing challenge the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial Tournament in Anapa, Russia last month and travelled as one of the top favourite to Lithuania.

The Moldovan Lightweight class (60 kg) boxer controlled the first two rounds against Hungary’s rising hope Richard Konnyu in the Danas Pozniakas Youth Memorial Tournament this month and his efforts in the first part of their contest were enough to keep his golden expectations in Vilnius. His triumph in the event meant that he is unbeaten in 2014.

Bucsa was bronze medallist at the EUBC European Junior Continental Championships in Sofia in 2012 and he will be returning to the capital city of Bulgarian next month and has got good chance to reach at least the same result in the AIBA Youth World Championships as two years ago. The 16-year-old Moldovan Lightweight class (60 kg) boxer will have strong rivals in Sofia such as Kazakhstan’s unbeaten Abylaykhan Zhussupov, Russia’s Temirlan Batdiyev and Cuba’s AIBA Junior World Champion Alayn Limonta Boudet.

Vladislav Tugui is their second male youth athlete who is medal contender in the upcoming AIBA Youth World Championships in Sofia. Tugui made his debut in the international level at the 2011 EUBC European Schoolboys Championships in Grozniy where he bagged a silver medal at the age of 13.

He is a talented southpaw boxer who is using quick combinations in his attacks and his defense is one of the best in this age group. Tugui advanced to the final of the last edition of the AIBA Junior World Championships in Kiev in September and claimed a further silver medal but he was able to win the gold in the EUBC European Junior Continental Championships in Anapa in November.

The Tiraspol-based Tugui was able to win at least a silver medal in each of the main worldwide and continental championships where he competed in the recent years therefore his expectations are high in the upcoming AIBA Youth World Championships at the Light Welterweight class (64 kg).

Promising Ekaterina Carp is Moldova’s best female boxing hope in the future who did not turn to 17 yet but she was selected to take part in the qualification event to the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics. She began boxing in 2011 and trains in the city of Tiraspol which is located in the Southeastern part of the country.

Carp competed in the second edition of the AIBA Women’s Junior World Championships in Albena last September therefore she will come back to Bulgaria but with raised skills and more experiences. The young lady won an international tournament in Ivano-Frankovsk in Ukraine this year where she defeated top boxers.
