His talented son, Rafael Lozano Serrano was born almost in a boxing gym and started boxing very early. The young Spanish attended in the EUBC European Confederation Schoolboys Boxing Championships in 2018 which was his first international event. Lozano joined to the juniors this year and started his bout in different rhythm as Italy’s Salvatore Di Noto at their pinweight (46kg) contest in Murcia. Lozano attacked strongly and tried to rule the middle of the ring and his style delivered for him a superb victory on Day2.
Surprise of the day
Spain’s Mario Mediavilla attended in his first international competition still at the Pinatar Junior Tournament in 2016 but he was not the favourite against United States’ Junior National Champion and Breeon Carothers who claimed silver at the 2018 Junior Nations Cup in Serbia. The Spanish lightweight (60kg) boxer exceeded all of the expectations with his performance in Murcia today. The host nation’s youth pride was able to keep his strong level until the end of the final gong and won their contest by split decision causing a big surprise at the Boxam Tournament.
Denmark’s Daniel Malik claimed the gold medal at the last edition of the Boxam Tournament in Murcia one year ago. Malik attended at the light flyweight (49kg) in the 2018 edition and he started his campaign now already as a flyweight (52kg) athlete. The 18-year-old Danish boxer had to meet with a dangerous opponent as first France’s Sofiane Saifi but Malik managed to win his opening bout in Murcia.
Malik’s teammate Nikolai Terteryan was quarter-finalist in the Roseto degli Abruzzi 2018 EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. He has got strong Armenian roots but he represents Denmark in the international stage since his childhood. Terteryan used his strength in his debuting contest in Murcia where following his tough combinations the referee stopped the bout against Spain’s Radouane Ammari.
France’s Benik Melkumian achieved silver medal in the 2018 Boxam Tournament last May and had to start against such strong opponent as United States’ Rashiem Jefferson at the youth bantamweight (56kg). Melkumian is aiming for a place in their squad for the EUBC European Confederation Boxing Championships and has done a big step with his success over the US boxer.
Spain’s Reduan Ashain is already an experienced youth boxer who had a fantastic success over Italy’s Giacomo Micheli at the welterweight (69kg) which was his best ever performance during his career. His younger teammate Sergio Martinez triumphed over United States’ Vito Mielnicki in the same category and the host nation’s talents advanced to the semi-finals of the Boxam Tournament.
