The 12th AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will take place in Istanbul in the first part of December

The date and the venue of the new edition of the forthcoming AIBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships has fixed on Saturday. Turkey’s historical city, Istanbul will be welcoming the best female boxers of the world in the first part of December still in 2021 following the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships.

The upcoming AIBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships will be a money prize event as the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships. Altogether 2,4 million USD will be shared between the medallists of the twelve new women’s weight categories: 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg.

The Turkish Boxing Federation hosted several top events in the recent 20 years and an international event took place in Istanbul this March. Turkey’s sensational duo Busenaz Surmeneli and Busenaz Cakiroglu were finalists in the Tokyo Olympic Games and both shined in all of the previous big championships. Busenaz Surmeneli is Turkey’s first ever Olympic Champion in our sport.

The first edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships took place in Scranton, United States 20 years ago. Since then Antalya, Podolsk, New Delhi, Ningbo City, Bridgetown, Qinhuangdao, Jeju, Astana, New Delhi once again and Ulan-Ude hosted the most important female event.

The last edition of the AIBA Women’s Elite World Boxing Championships was held in Ulan-Ude, Russia in November 2019. The gold medals have been shared between Russia, China, United States, Turkey, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Brazil and Wales while Vietnam and Morocco earned historical medals in Ulan-Ude.

All of the delegation members have to present their negative PCR tests which have to be done within 72 hours before the arrival to Istanbul. The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls were the responsibility of the local organizers in Turkey to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
