The 17th Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament will be preparation for the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships
04 February 2022The new 17th edition of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania in March 15-20. The competition will be a preparation tournament before the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in April 10-22. The Lithuanian organizers have got strong experiences from the recent years and waiting for record number of boxers to Vilnius.
The competition was named after Lithuania’s national boxing hero Mr. Danas Pozniakas who claimed gold medal at the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games representing the Soviet Union and also crowned three-times in the history of the European Boxing Championships. During his long and successful career Lithuanian boxing icon Danas Pozniakas won 203 bouts out of his 217 total contests in the ’60s.
Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 are eligible to attend in the new edition of the Danas Pozniakas Tournament. The official 13 male weight categories will be held in Vilnius: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg, 92kg and +92kg.
The last 2021 edition of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament contained 15 finals in Lithuania’s capital in Vilnius where Spain, Latvia, Poland, the Czech Republic and the host country were the best nations. Latvia impressively won three gold medals in the event and all of their winners as Beatrise Rozentale, Nikolina Boke and Matvejs Prokudins proved their talents once again.
The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Lithuania to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the 2022 Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament.
