The 64th Golden Gloves Tournament moves to Loznica and will be held on December 13-19
17 November 2021The upcoming 64th edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament will be held in Loznica, Serbia on December 13-19 when women and men boxers can also compete for the medals.
The Serbian Boxing Federation hosted the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships between October 24 and November 6 and a top event returns to the country. Their next international event is the Golden Gloves Tournament which is one of the traditional competitions in Europe. Powerful nations competed in the recent editions of the Golden Gloves Tournament in Serbia.
The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Serbia avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the new edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament.
History of the Golden Gloves Tournament
The competition was launched in the end of the ’50s and saw several big champions in the recent decades. AIBA World Champions and Olympic medallists such as Croatia’s Mate Parlov, Uzbekistan’s Rufat Riskiyev, Kazakhstan’s Serik Konakbayev, Bulgaria’s Detelin Dalakliev and Russia’s David Ayrapetyan also won the Golden Gloves Tournament in the past.
The 2016 edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament was held in a small town in Vrnjacka Banja which is located near to their capital city Belgrade but the Serbian Boxing Federation decided to move the competition back to their capital in 2017. Bosnia & Herzegovina’s young boxer Sandro Poletan won the Best Boxer Award in Belgrade and became the Golden Glove winner at the very first time in 2017.
An important AIBA 3-star Referee & Judge Course was held during the 2018 edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament after the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Russia topped the team rankings with their four gold medals ahead of Morocco and host Serbia in the 2018 edition.
The 62nd edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament was held in a new Serbian venue in Pancevo in the end of 2019. Ukraine’s EUBC European Champion Viktor Vykhryst won the bout of the finals against Serbia’s Vladan Babic while the main sensation of the whole event was delivered by Moldova’s Alexandru Paraschiv who defeated his tough Cuban rival in the final one year ago.
The following 17 nations attended in three-day long 62nd edition of the Golden Gloves Tournament in Pancevo in 2019: Algeria, Bulgaria, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Ghana, Italy, Moldova, Morocco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Romania, Scotland, host Serbia and Ukraine.
Ukraine, Cuba, Serbia, and Algeria shared the gold medals in the last 63rd Golden Gloves Tournament in the city of Sombor one year ago. The most important award, the Golden Glove’s Winner was Serbia’s ex-Russian boxer Vakhid Abbasov. The Best Technician Boxer was Cuba’s Yoangel Moya while the best bout was held between Ukraine’s Dmytro Rybalko and Algeria’s Younes Nemouchi in the event.
