The energetic President of the Georgian Boxing Federation Mr. Davit Tsiklauri – It was an honour for us to host a European Championships in Georgia at the second time
21 July 2021The successful EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships was the highlight of the month of July which took place in Tbilisi, Georgia and 26 boxers celebrated their titles after the finals. Mr. Davit Tsiklauri is the President of the Georgian Boxing Federation and his energetic leadership guaranteed the success of the event.
EUBC Competition Commission member Mr. Davit Tsiklauri’s team hosted the 2019 EUBC European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Tbilisi and the boxing official took the next big event for the juniors to Georgia. Many of the stars of the 2019 event returned to the Georgian capital as junior boxers. Mr. Davit Tsiklauri replied to our answers and summarized his experiences about the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships.
“First of all I want to underline that it was really an honour for us to be the host country of an EUBC European Boxing Championships at the second time. Tbilisi was the host city of the 2019 EUBC European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships at the very first time in Georgia’s Boxing History. I believe that it was a real success two years ago and we wanted to continue our pathway to host big events in Georgia.
We started preparations for the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships at the beginning of this year and it was easier this time than two years ago. We already had the experience in the organizations which helped us a lot. The main difficulties before the start of the event were everything in compliance with the Covid-19 regulations and unfortunately it was really difficult for all of us.
Our biggest strength in the Georgian Boxing Federation is my team which can organize any of the competitions, including World Boxing Championships. I believe this is our main strength, we are working as a family in Georgia.
It was a pleasure for me and my team to welcome AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev and AIBA Secretary General Mr. Istvan Kovacs in Tbilisi. Before the start of the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships Ms. Ria Ramnarine arrived from the AIBA office and she helped us to organize everything. It is really easy to work with such professional persons as Mr. Marko Marovic and Mr. Dragoljub Radovic. Because of their strong support, everything was well-organized and ran smoothly in Tbilisi.
I have to congratulate to all of the teams, coaches, and all squad members who produced their best performance in the event. To be honest, after the most difficult pandemic months, we did not expect to the participation of 29 countries in Tbilisi which was above of our expectations.
The Georgian team gained 10 medals in the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships which was the next historical result and step for us. I don’t know yet which will be our next international event in Georgia but I am sure we will do even better next time and we are ready for all of the upcoming challenges,” summarized the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships Mr. Davit Tsiklauri who is one of the young engines in our continent.
