The EUBC Executive Committee members wish Happy Birthday to President Mr. Franco Falcinelli
11 May 2020The Executive Committee members of the European Boxing Confederation wish Happy Birthday to the EUBC President and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Franco Falcinelli. All of the EUBC EC members wish good health, prosperity and happiness for Mr. Franco Falcinelli on his special day.
Mr. Franco Falcinelli celebrates his 75th birthday today who began to serve the world’s boxing life nearly 60 years ago. Mr. Franco Falcinelli was born on May 5 in 1945 and began his boxing career at the age of 17 in 1962. He was member of the Italian national boxing team in 1966 and in 1967 and attended in an international dual match against the US team.
He became coach in 1971 and during his leadership the Italian teams achieved several Olympic and World medals mostly in the ‘80s and the ‘90s. As head coach of the Italian boxing team from 1979, his pupils won seven Olympic medals including three titles with his active support in the ringside. These gold medals were achieved by Patrizio Oliva in 1980, Maurizio Stecca in 1984 and Giovanni Parisi in 1988.
Since 1997 he is one of the most active boxing officials in the whole world who became President of the Italian Boxing Federation in 2001 and Vice-President of the European Amateur Boxing Association (EABA).
Mr. Franco Falcinelli was the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships. That AIBA World Boxing Championships holds a strong record in terms of number of participating nations until our present days.
Mr. Franco Falcinelli was appointed as President of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) in 2012 and became AIBA Vice-President in the 2014 Congress. He received five important awards and recognitions including the Knight Commander of Merit from the Italian Republic in 2004.
He worked as top official in the recent three editions of the Olympic Games in Beijing, in London and in Rio de Janeiro. Between October 2017 and January 2018 he served the International Boxing Association as Interim President.
