The Georgians did a perfect day at the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships

24 October 2017 News

The 27th edition of the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships continued with its second competition day in Antalya, Turkey where the Georgians proved wonderful performance.

The city of Antalya hosted the 2011 edition of the AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. After six years of break top level of boxing returned to the city of Antalya which is located off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

In the opening bout of the second competition day of the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships Georgia’s EUBC European Junior Champion Shakhil Allakhverdovi won all of the rounds against Turkey’s Firat Dayan and advanced to the quarter-finals of the event.

Russia’s Daniil Lysenko won his last two preparation events before the start of the Antalya event where he had to meet with Ireland’s EUBC European Confederation Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Terrence Donoghue. The Russian boxer, who had more than 100 bouts already during his career, was too quick for his Irish opponent therefore Lysenko can prepare to his quarter-final bout.

England’s 17-year-old promising talent Ivan Hope Price moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent weeks and after the Commonwealth Youth Games he proved top performance once again. The English talent used up his height advantage against Romania’s EUBC European Confederation Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Marian Gabriel Schiopu and longer hands was the difference between them on Day2.

Russia’s AIBA Junior World Champion and European Youth Champion Nikita Piskunov eliminated his main rival Turkey’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Necat Ekinci in the first preliminary round of the lightweight (60kg). The 18-year-old Russian was trying to use the best tactic against France’s Jeremy Dupetitmagneux and his efforts delivered for him his second success in Antalya.

Czech Republic’s Artur Sachbazjan shocked his Irish opponent, AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist James Eamer Coughlan in the first preliminary round in Antalya. Following his RSC success the Czech lightweight (60kg) boxer was not able to repeat the same performance and lost to Ukraine’s experienced youth talent Taras Bondarchuk in a top bout.

Ireland’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Gabriel Dossen is the main favourite of the welterweight (69kg) in the EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships where he started well against Estonia’s Pavel Kamanin on Day1. The 18-year-old Irish boxer, who was born in Ivory Coast, met with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Kravets and his concentrated boxing delivered for him a place in the last eight.

AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Eryk Apresyan is Poland’s best hope for a medal in Antalya where he had to meet with Georgia’s Saif-Islam Madiev as first in the welterweight (69kg). Madiev’s elder brother Eskerkhan is the current EUBC European U22 Champion but Saif-Islam is an inexperienced athlete in the international level. In spite of the previous chances Madiev delivered his best ever performance and defeated his favourite Polish rival in Antalya.

Georgia’s Artiom Yordanyan is member of the national team since 2015 and his development this year is amazing. The 18-year-old Georgian heavyweight (91kg) boxer won the Klichko Brothers Youth Tournament two months ago and did his very best against Italy’s Andrea Pugliara in his debuting contest. The final verdict was unanimous decision for the Georgian boxer who advanced to the Top8 of the category.

Finland’s EUBC European Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Krenar Aliu tried to use his attacking style against Romania’s Cristian Razvan Filip who was quarter-finalist in the 2016 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in St. Petersburg. The 18-year-old Finnish heavyweight (91kg) boxer moved ahead but his Romanian opponent found the best fighting distance and eliminated Aliu which was a small surprise on Day2.
