The new 6th edition of the Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament will be held in March 7-12

The upcoming 6^th Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria on March 7-12 and its team delegations’ handbook have been shared between the National Federations. The Bulgarian Boxing Federation will be the host of the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships in April and their international tournament could be a test before that.

The tournament is dedicated to Mr. Emil Jechev the former President of the European Boxing Association and AIBA Vice-President. Mr. Academician Prof. Emil Jechev passed away in Sofia in July 2015 at the age of 88. Mr. Academician Prof. Emil Jechev devoted his whole life to serve Bulgaria’s and the world’s boxing life.

He had an outstanding reputation in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Boxing Association (AIBA) and all of the regional sport associations in Europe and in Bulgaria. The first edition of the Emil Jechev Memorial Tournament was held in 2016 to remember his greatness.

Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 are eligible to attend in the new edition of the Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament. The first competition day will be March 8 while the finals are scheduled to be hosted in March 11.

Altogether 35 boxers competed in the last 2021 edition of the Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament in Bulgaria representing seven nations: Bulgaria, Italy, Kosovo, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia and Switzerland. Italy, Bulgaria, and Serbia won the gold medals in the 5^th edition of the Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament which took place only for the male boxers this time.

The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Bulgaria to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the 2022 Emil Jechev Youth Memorial Tournament.
