The prestigious 41st Tammer Tournament opens the year in 2022

The 41^st Tammer Tournament will be one of the first international competitions in 2022, the event returns to the European boxing schedule after more than two years of break. The new upcoming edition will be held in Tampere on January 20-24 and 13 champions will be crowned in this traditional boxing event.

The Pyynikkin Sports Hall is the traditional venue of the Tammer Tournament in Tampere which has a strong brand and marketing value since 1977. The main organizer is one the engines of the world’s women’s boxing, Ms. Anna Laukkanen who supports also Mr. Aarno Laukkanen in all kind of organizational matters.

The first edition of the Tammer Tournament was held in 1977 when 11 boxers won the historical titles. Tampere was the host of the 1993 AIBA World Boxing Championships, the 2000 edition of the European Boxing Championships. The Tammer Tournament has been used a few times also as Qualification Tournament for the Olympic Games and European Boxing Championships.

Since the first edition, several stars competed in the prestigious Tammer Tournament: Kazakhstan’s icon Serik Konakbayev, United States’ boxing heroes as Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, Finland’s stars Joni Nyman and Jyri Kjall, Germany’s Sven Ottke, Hungary’s Olympic Games winner Istvan Kovacs, Russia’s Olympic Champion Aleksandr Lebziak, England’s Joseph Joyce, France’s Jerome Thomas and 2017 AIBA World Champion Sofiane Oumiha, Brazil’s Tokyo Olympic Games winner Hebert Conceicao Sousa and Finland’s icon, two-time Olympics bronze medallist Mira Potkonen.

All of the participants must have a negative PCR test ot older than 72 hours upon arrival to Finland or an individual certificate of Covid-19 vaccination, or medical certificate about the participant has overcome the disease in the recent six months. The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Tampere avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the new edition of the Tammer Tournament.
