The prestigious Golden Belt Tournament returns to the European boxing agenda this April

The prestigious Golden Belt Tournament returns to the European boxing agenda after four years of break and will be held in Targu Mures on April 3-9 as part of the preparations for the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships and the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The most powerful nations such as Cuba, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and England are also planning to attend in the new 44th Golden Belt Tournament.

The Romanian Boxing Federation will host the Brasov Youth & Junior Open next week and their management is planning to arrange further international competitions in 2022. The recent editions of the Golden Belt Tournament were taking place in Constanta, in Chiajna, in Craiova, in Iasi and in Galati. Following the decision of the Romanian Boxing Federation, the Golden Belt Tournament moved to the city of Targu Mures.

The Romanian Boxing Federation hosted the 2017 and 2018 editions of the EUBC European Confederation U22 Boxing Championships in Braila and in Targu Jiu, furthermore the 2019 EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships in Galati and the 2017 EUBC European Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Valcea.

The last edition of the Golden Belt Tournament took place in Galati on September 2018 where five women and nine men champions celebrated their titles. England, Romania and Ireland controlled the finals of the Golden Belt Tournament. Bulgaria’s 19-year-old Boyan Asenov who defeated EUBC European Champion Peter McGrail at the bantamweight (56kg) delivered the main sensation. 

The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, the vaccines check, the mask wearing and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in Romania to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the Golden Belt Tournament.
