The Sport of Boxing moves forward in the Classification of Olympic Sport
30 May 2013The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has announced that the Sport of boxing was upgraded from Group D to Group C level in the classification of the 28 Olympic Sports for the future distribution of the TV rights’ revenues from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This was announced by IOC yesterday morning.
“I believe that this is the result of the tremendous success of the London 2012 Olympic Games last summer and I am extremely pleased with this revised classification”, stated AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in a letter sent to AIBA National Member Federations. “This demonstrates once more that all the efforts we have made in the past six years to clean the sport of boxing and bring it to the pinnacle of the Olympic Movement were not vain.
“When we look back to the popularity of the boxing competition at the London 2012 Olympic Games, we can be proud of the boxers and officials who all together brought great success for our sport”.
