The upcoming Botvinnik Junior Memorial Tournament will be held in Minsk on June 7-11
28 May 2021Following the Victory Day Tournament, Belarus will be hosting the Botvinnik Junior Memorial Tournament in their capital city in Minsk. The previous edition was hosted for the youth boxers but the upcoming competition is scheduled for the junior talents in order to prepare for the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships. The competition venue will be the multipurpose cultural and sports complex, the Minsk Arena.
Mr. Vladimir Botvinnik was born in the Belarusian SSR of the Soviet Union 1938. Following his early career, he became Champion of the Soviet Union in 1959 as only the second boxer from Belarus in the history of the event. The seven-time Belarusian National Champion was a successful coach after his active athlete career and trained the next generation of boxers in Belarus. Following his excellent results, awards and as he dedicated his whole life to boxing, the international competition was named after him.
The competition will be organized by the Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve in Boxing, the Ministry of Sports and Tourisms of the Republic of Belarus, the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Belarusian Boxing Federation.
The Belarusian Boxing Federation scheduled the event for the junior boxers for both genders and those who were born in 2005 and in 2006 are eligible to attend in the event. The team composition for the event could be 10 boxers, 2 coaches, 1 AIBA Referee & Judge and 1 representative. All expenses related to the accommodation, full board and local transportation will be paid for the teams by the Belarusian local organizers.
The last edition of the Botvinnik Youth Memorial Tournament was held in Minsk on October 2020. The finals saw several top fights between the Russians, Uzbeks and the best local boxers. Four women and ten male finals were in the program of last competition day when the Russian stars such as Evgeniy Zhorov, Magomed Mamayev, Dmitriy Zakharov and Mikhail Usov all won the gold medals.
The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in the Belarus to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the new Botvinnik Junior Memorial Tournament.
