The Victory Day Tournament starts in Gomel today
05 May 2021The Victory Day Tournament is the next international competition in Europe which starts with its first competition day today. The Belarusian city of Gomel is then host of the Victory Day Tournament to commemorate of the end of the World War II.
Altogether 75 boxers will be attending in the Victory Day Tournament including many of Europe’s stars. Belarus’ European Games winner and AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Dzmitry Asanau is the biggest name in the men’s entry list and the main favourite for the gold medal at the lightweight (63kg).
Russia’s experienced women duo Svetlana Soluianova and Daria Abramova are European Champions from the previous editions. The next generation of the Russian female boxers such as Elite National Champion 20-year-old Nune Asatrian and Youth Olympic Games winner Anastasia Shamonova are attending in Gomel.
Host Belarus and Moldova claimed all of the gold medals in the last edition of the Victory Day Tournament in Gomel two years ago. Moldova’s Davron Bozorov won the narrowest final of the whole event in Gomel where Belarus’ Mihail Melnikau did revenge for his 2018 loss against Anton Stelmakhov in the 2019 edition.
The safety of all participants, the continuous medical checks, the social distancing, the hygienic preparations, wearing masks and all of the health controls are the responsibility of the local organizers in the Belarus to avoid any new Covid-19 cases during the Victory Day Tournament.
