The Technical Delegate of the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament is Mr. Dragoljub Radovic of Serbia.

The competition was named after Lithuania’s national boxing hero Danas Pozniakas who claimed gold medal at the Mexico 1968 Olympic Games representing the Soviet Union and also crowned three-times in the history of the European Boxing Championships. During his long and successful career Lithuanian boxing icon Danas Pozniakas won 203 bouts out of his 217 total contests in the ’60s.

The bout of the day

Ukraine’s Dmytro Molodan achieved silver medal in the 2019 EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships in Galati, Romania. He joined to the youth competitions this January and competes at the flyweight (52kg) in the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament. The Ukrainian boxer is only 16 but he had more than 100 bouts already during his career since 2013. Molodan had to meet with his main rival in Vilnius and India’s Ankit was a competitive rival for him as expected. The Ukrainian has done a great finish and eliminated his tough Indian opponent which means he can meet for the gold with his teammate Maksym Horodniuk.

The surprise of the day

Poland’s Jakub Straszewski attended at the 2018 and 2019 editions of the EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships but on both events he lost in the first preliminary round. Starikov eliminated Scotland’s Gerard McTaggart and continued his winning path against Lithuania’s Armandas Bielskus in the semi-finals of the lightweight (60kg). The Estonian talent will be facing for the gold with India’s Akash Gorkha who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Yerbol Asandyrov.

Czech Republic’s Erik Suchy caused a big surprise in the quarter-finals when he bowed out Lithuania’s experienced Nedas Gudomskas at the light welterweight (64kg). The Czech boxer controlled all of the rounds against another Lithuanian boxer Domas Valentinavicius and advanced to the final of the competition. The Czech boxer will be meeting for the gold medal with India’s Youth National Champion Ajay Kumar who defeated Poland’s Oliwer Zamojski in an exciting semi-final.

Lithuania’s EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Aleksandr Trofimcuk moved down to the welterweight (69kg) and opened with a narrow success in the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament. The 18-year-old Lithuanian had a fantastic battle against India’s Youth National Championships silver medallist Sumit in the semi-finals.
