#WSBV Boxer of the Week 9 – Tomasz Jablonski

Poland’s Tomasz Jablonski has been one of the best success stories in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) this season, and the Rafako Hussars Poland star currently sits at the top of the Middleweight (75 kg) rankings.

His excellent form has resulted in him being named as the third WSB Boxer of the Week.

Jablonski is 4-1 in Season V, and opened his campaign with a TKO victory away against Puerto Rico’s Jean Alicea.

Two home wins followed with points victories over Argentina’s Christian Zarate and Italy’s Salvatore Cavallaro.

A fourth triumph was secured away as Jablonski out pointed Venezuela’s Juan Carlos Rodriguez Patiño.

Despite losing his first match of the season last week via split decision against Kazakhstan’s Meiirim Nursultanov, the Polish fighter still tops the Middleweight rankings with just two matches of the Regular Season to go.

After five exciting fights so far in this campaign, Jablonski spoke to WSB regarding his season so far.

Rafako Hussars Poland are currently in 7th place of Group B with 10 points. What goals do you and the team have for the rest of the Regular Season?

Our team target is to present our best abilities in each coming match, and we hope to get to the quarter-finals. My personal goal is to fight for the Olympic qualification, and that is my main purpose in this season.

Personally, you have competed excellently in Season V, and have a 4-1 record. What has been your best result this season and why?

The group stage has not finished yet but I can say that my fight against Salvatore Cavallaro from Italia Thunder was my greatest challenge. He was really good, and the fight was another experience for me.

Do you feel that you are in the best form of your career?

I have been working really hard before this season and I think I am in the best form in my career.

After 9 Weeks of competition you are at the top of the Middleweight rankings, and at the end of the Regular Season the top two boxers will qualify for Rio 2016. Do you think that you will get your Olympic ticket through WSB?

There are two matches left to win. I know that the opponents are tough but I believe I can beat them and I will try to fight for my dream – the ticket to Rio 2016.

You lost your first match of the season to Meiirim Nursultanov last week. How will you react and recover from this defeat?

Meiirim Nursultanov is a very good boxer, and I knew that it would be a really tough fight for me. Unfortunately I did not win but I will do my best to redeem the result in the last two matches.

Has it helped being in the same team as Steven Donnelly and Igor Pawel Jakubowski who are both ranked high in their own weight classes?

Being in the same team with boxers such as Steven Donnelly and Igor Jakubowski who win their fights as well is helping all of us keep a positive atmosphere during training.

How would you describe your boxing style?

I think what defines my style is good condition/endurance and a high number of punches during each rounds. I try to read my opponent and fit into their style which enable me to find his weakness.

Which boxer (active or inactive) have you always wanted to box against?

I just want to fight with the current best ranked boxers and win to become the best.

You are still very young, but how do you see your life after boxing?

I am concentrating on fighting for the Olympic qualification and that is what all my future plans are connected with right now. I would like to have an opportunity to continue with boxing for living because I love what I do.

If you hadn’t been a boxer, what would you have been?

That is really hard question! I used to be a car mechanic before my boxing career so I would probably be still a mechanic right now, but who knows.

• Rafako Hussars Poland are my coaches, my friends, my team, who I have been with from the early beginning, and which gave me a great opportunity for my career.
