#WSBV Day 12 – Russian Boxing Team welcome Algeria Desert Hawks to Moscow07 April 2015
The initial meeting was rescheduled due to inclement weather in Russia, and this long awaited match now holds even more significance as the Regular Season nears its climax.
Russian Boxing Team have lost their last two WSB matches, while Algeria are seeking their first away win of the season.
Sport Palace “Druzhba”, Moscow is the venue for this Group A clash, where on Tuesday 7th April fans across the world can watch the action free, live and on demand from 20:00 (GMT +3) at AIBABoxingTV.com.
Seventh ranked Light flyweight (49 kg) Vasilii Egorov opens the evening for Russia, and will hope to return to winning ways after losing to Joselito Velázquez Altamirano in his last match.
The 3-1 star faces Algeria’s 0-3 Zoheir Toudjine who has lost all three of his bouts this season on points.
While the majority of the Bantamweights (56 kg) in WSB have just one match to go, sixth ranked Vladimir Nikitin has two, with his first coming up in Moscow against 1-1 Khalil Litim.
Nikitin is undefeated this season with four victories, including three at home, and is just two points behind Ireland’s Michael Conlan who currently sits second in the standings.
Victory over Litim will see Nikitin leap four places in the qualification rankings for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games heading into the last round of matches, and if he maintains that standing he will reach the Games via WSB.
Russia’s Vitaly Dunaytsev suffered his first defeat of the campaign last time out in Mexico, so he will be eager to recover well from that disappointment against Algeria’s 2-3 Ahmed Boudiaf.
Although Dunaytsev is seventh in the Light welterweight (64 kg) rankings, he is ten points behind the qualification places, so will need a convincing victory here to keep any Olympic hopes alive.
Boudiaf has had an impressive season for Algeria however, and is a very tough opponent for any WSB fighter.
One boxer making a late surge for Rio 2016 is Middleweight (75 kg) Petr Khamukov who has stopped all four of his opponents in Season V of the competition.
The manner of Khamukov’s victories has put him fifth in the Middleweight standings, and two boxers from that weight class will reach Rio through WSB.
With two fights to go for Khamukov as opposed to just one for his rivals, the Russian is just five points away from the top three in the division, so Arlen Lopez, Hurshidbek Normatov and Tomasz Jablonski will all be hoping that 0-1 Desert Hawk Azzouz Boudia can withstand the barrage of the Russian.
Khamukov is perhaps pound for pound the most ferocious puncher in all of WSB, and this is Boudia’s first appearance since week three.
A Heavyweight (91 kg) tussle closes the night in Moscow, where sixth ranked Evgeny Tishchenko battles Bouziane Houna who took Erislandy Savon all five rounds in his last outing.
