14 February 2015
Week 5 Group B Rafako Hussars Poland vs Italia Thunder FULL RESULTS
After a torrid start to Season V of the World Series of Boxing (WSB), Italia Thunder have finally found form, and their latest away win over Rafako Hussars Poland ensures that their undefeated streak continues.
The Polish Franchise however have now lost four of their opening five bouts of the season, and despite two of their boxers remaining unbeaten over three matches – can the rest of their team find success before it’s too late?
Poland lost every single round last week to Azerbaijan Baku Fires, and for the first three matches in Konin it looked like history was repeating itself again.
Italia Thunder’s 3-2 win began at Light flyweight (49 kg) where Ireland’s two-time Olympic medalist Patrick Barnes went 3-0 for the season with a superb victory against Dawid Sebastian Jagodzinski.
Ireland’s Michael Conlon, a fellow Olympic medalist and Italia Thunder teammate of Barnes then won his second match for his Franchise at Bantamweight (56 kg) as he won every round over Sylwester Kozlowski.
The Italian dominance continued at Light welterweight (64 kg) where 2-1 Vincenzo Mangiacapre outclassed 1-2 Damian Kiwior to claim the overall victory for the Thunder.
For the first time in eight WSB individual matches, Rafako Hussars Poland finally won a round, and then a bout at Middleweight (75 kg) when Tomasz Jablonski continued his excellent start to the season with his third win a row against Italy’s 1-2 Salvatore Cavallaro.
Poland then picked up a valuable bonus point by winning the last bout at Heavyweight (91 kg) as Igor Pawel Jakubowski, who has been one of the most impressive Heavyweights in WSB so far went 3-0 with a crushing points win over Endri Spahiu.
Italia Thunder are at home to Caciques Venezuela next week, while Rafako Hussars Poland travel to Miami to face USA Knockouts.
