#WSBV Day 8 – Astana Arlans Kazakhstan narrowly defeat courageous Caciques Venezuela
09 March 2015After five engrossing bouts in Caracas, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan ultimately enjoyed their eighth successive World Series of Boxing (WSB) victory, but were pushed all the way by the courageous Caciques Venezuela.
The 3-2 victory for Kazakhstan further displays their complete dominance of Group B, but the South American Franchise will take heart from pushing one of the greatest teams in the history of the competition to the limit.
Olzhas Sattibayev won his second match of the season for Kazakhstan at Flyweight (52 kg) as he comfortably outpointed Carlos José Ascanio Perez.
South American Lightweight (60 kg) Fradimil Macayo then enjoyed a split decision verdict over Zakir Safiullin to even up the scoring.
Another Venezuelan victory was achieved at Welterweight (69 kg) when 2-1 Gabriel Maestre Perez dominated Kazakh National Champion Aslanbek Shymbergenov.
Croatia’s number two ranked Light heavyweight (81 kg) Hrvoje Sep began the Kazakhstan comeback with his fourth victory of Season V, though it was a close and competitive split decision win against Albert Ramon Ramirez Duran.
The fight was incredibly exciting, and only round separated the fighters on all three scorecards.
If two of the judges had given Duran one more round, he would have won the match, and Kazakhstan would have suffered their first defeat of the season.
Number one ranked Astana Arlans Super heavyweight (91+ kg) Filip Hrgovic ensured the overall victory for his Franchise, and his third stoppage success of the campaign by finishing Edgar Ramon Munoz Mata in round two of their contest.
Caciques Venezuela travel to Azerbaijan Baku Fires next week, while Astana Arlans Kazakhstan host Rafako Hussars Poland.
