08 March 2015After a difficult start to Season V in the World Series of Boxing (WSB), Season IV runners-up Azerbaijan Baku Fires have now won four of their last five matches, including their latest 4-1 triumph away to Italia Thunder.
The Italian Franchise will be disappointed to lose by such a scoreline in Milan, and after two successive defeats they have a lot of work to do to qualify from Group B.
Baku Fires Flyweight (52 kg) Murad Rabadanov enjoyed a successful first appearance of the season with a routine points victory over India’s 1-2 Gaurav Bidhuri.
Number one ranked Lightweight (60 kg) Albert Selimov then enjoyed his fourth consecutive WSB outing with victory against Italian debutant Sedik Boufrakech.
Azerbaijan’s aggregate win was secured at Welterweight (69 kg) when 3-0 Parviz Baghirovoutpointed Italian debutant Alfonso Di Russo.
Italy clawed a point back in fight number four as the WSB second ranked Light heavyweight (81 kg) Valentino Manfredonia took a great leap towards Olympic qualification by defeating Azerbaijan’s number four ranked 2-2 Soltan Migitinov.
4-0 Arslanbek Makhmudov lived up to his reputation as the best Super heavyweight (91+ kg) in the competition as he took the undefeated record of Italy’s Guido Vianello in the last fight of the evening.
Azerbaijan Baku Fires host Caciques Venezuela next week, while Italia Thunder welcome USA Knockouts to Europe.
