#WSBV – Debutants Puerto Rico Hurricanes aiming for first WSB win against Rafako Hussars Poland
16 January 2015Puerto Rico, one of the greatest nations in boxing history, make their World Series of Boxing debut, with the Hurricanes franchise facing Rafako Hussars Poland in front of their home fans.
Coliseíto Pedrín Zorrilla, San Juan is the venue on Saturday 17th January, and fans across the world can watch the action free, live and on demand 19:00 (GMT -5) at AIBABoxingTV.com.
The Light flyweights (49 kg) kick off the evening, with Puerto Rico’s Olympian Anthony Ortiz fighting Poland’s Dawid Jagodzinski.
Ortiz may fancy his chances in this fight, as though Jagodzinski has plenty of WSB experience, he has had little success in the competition, although he did have a confidence boosting win over Germany’s Hagen Hamel during an AOB friendly in December.
At Bantamweight (56 kg), Puerto Rico’s Garibaldy Gomez fights Poland’s Marek Pietruczuk who has been working incredibly hard to be in form for Season V.
Jan Rivera is relatively unknown at international level, and the Light welterweight (64 kg) faces Poland’s Damian Kiwior, who is one of the most popular boxers in the Franchise.
Middleweights (75 kg) often produce superb WSB matches, and this should be no different, as the dynamic and powerful Jean Alicea of Puerto Rico enters the ring against Poland’s Tomasz Jablonski who has already competed in three seasons of the competition.
The last fight in San Juan is at Heavyweight, as home star Michael Narvaez who won a Central American & Caribbean Games Qualifier last year fights Igor Jakubowski who claimed victory at the European Union Boxing Championships in Sofia in August.
Poland struggled badly in WSB last season, and will hope to win this much to give them confidence, while Puerto Rico will take inspiration from Season IV winners Cuba Domadores who won the competition in their debut season.
